Shareen Bundy Quote

Why did you choose a career in international development?

International development is key to understanding the moral, practical, and political challenges that confront humanity today, such as climate change, education, health, poverty, and inequality. Improving the lives of individuals worldwide through areas of need and interest. I have always been a humanitarian and my dream has always been to help others especially woman and children. When I was little, I would tell my grandparents that when I grow up, I'm going to help every woman to be like wonder woman. International development gives me the chance to do just that.

What do you find most gratifying about your work at CLDP?

At CLDP the most satisfying aspect is that we are improving the lives of individuals worldwide through areas of need and interest. In areas such as health, education, democracy, sustainability, and economics, people are better equipped to live more equitable lives with greater opportunities. To be able to assist woman all over the world gain knowledge and the tools to be economically empowered.

What does women’s economic empowerment mean to you?

It means that women and girls can move from limited power, voice, and choice at home and in the economy to having the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to become empowered with limitless opportunities. It means the woman can be more than just moms and caregivers they can be business owners, scientist, engineers and even vice president of the United States. As an African American Woman who was born in poverty, it means so much to me. Personally, I strived to finish my degree to put myself in a better economic position. I was determined to break the cycle of woman being in poverty and be an example for the next generation of woman in my family.
