CLDP and the Iraqi Higher Judicial Council organized a four-day workshop for ten Iraqi judges on the role of courts in enforcing arbitration agreements and awards invovling investment disputes. In response to an increase in foreign investment in Iraq, the Iraqi judiciary seeks to train its judges on how to adjudicate cases involving arbitration in investment contracts utilizing international best practices and in compliance with Iraq's international legal obligations. The workshop featured presentations by international legal experts and Iraqi judges in addition to interactive exercises and case studies to illustrate potential challenges courts face in deciding investment arbitration cases. The workshop participants included judges from both trial and appellate levels in provinces across Iraq.
