From June 6th to 22nd, 2012 CLDP organized a program on Cross-Border Unitization Consultations which consisted of consultations by Iraqi officials with experts in Washington, DC, New Orleans and Mexico City. The program focused on building the capacity of the Iraqi government to develop agreements with its neighbors to manage and exploit cross-border fields. The Iraqi delegation consisted of representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, Council of Representatives as well as the Ministries of Oil, Defense and Environment. One of the core topics for the program was the lessons learned from the recently concluded US/Mexico Transboundary Agreement. Members from the Transboundary Agreement negotiating team from both sides shared their strategies for formulating effective and mutually beneficial cross-border unitization frameworks.
