In response to a request from the Libyan Government, CLDP planed and implemented the first seminar of a four-phase program intended to build the Libyan judiciary's capacity to adjudicate fairly and consistently international trade/investment disputes and enforce arbitral awards. With support from AmEmbassy Tripoli, a CLDP attorney and U.S. federal judge Delissa Ridgway traveled to Libya for meetings with the General People's Committee (GPC) on Justice, the GPC of Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation, and private companies. CLDP also organized a two-day seminar at the Higher Judicial Institute introducing basic concepts of international commercial law (choice of forum, choice of law, incoterms, and sanctity of international contracts) and international arbitration, focusing on the NY Convention.
