On October 22^nd, CLDP in cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), hosted a webinar on 5G preparedness and securing the next generation networks. The primary goal of this session was to gain a better understanding of the current landscape for 5G readiness in Kosovo and challenges that stand in the way of deployment of secure 5G networks. The secondary goal was to share the expertise on FCC’s efforts to help facilitate deployment of 5G while keeping in mind national security considerations. As a result of CLDP’s webinar,  Embassy Pristina requested additional CLDP assistance, including providing input on a draft Cyber Security law and further assistance on regulatory and secondary legislation as Kosovo implements and revises existing laws to ensure security of its critical infrastructure.  CLDP’s program is providing assistance to Kosovo with respect to restricting untrusted vendors in accordance with the State Department’s Clean Path initiative in the Balkans. The webinar is part of a larger effort to aid Kosovo in protecting itself from malign economic influence, whether through foreign direct investment, telecommunications procurements, or telecommunications security policies.
