Twelve representatives from the Moroccan leather industry and two repesentatives from the Moroccan Ministry of Commerce and Industry traveled to the United States to consult with U.S. government and private sector officials on current standards and technical regulations affecting the U.S. leather industry. Under the U.S.-Morocco Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Morocco is obligated to implement practical changes related to transparency in the adoption of standards and technical reguations. In addition, the U.S. is committed to helping Moroccan businesses understand the standards and technical regulations that affect the U.S. leather industry. This consultative visit facilitated the sharing of U.S. expertise in this legal area. As a result, Morocco will gain meaningful insight into a practical model, and thus be more equipped to successfully meet its obligations when the FTA enters into force.
