On November 8, CLDP held the Official Launch of the Maldives International Arbitration Center (MIAC). The Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and the State Minister of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure of the Maldives attended the event. MIAC is the first and only institution offering arbitration services in the Maldives. This launch event will bring greater exposure to the center and help foster the culture of arbitration in the region. This event was a culmination of over two years of collaboration and partnership between CLDP, MIAC, and the Maldives Attorney General’s Office where CLDP assisted MIAC with developing state-of-the-art arbitration rules; trained its legal counsels on case management; and trained and certified its arbitrators. CLDP will continue to provide technical assistance to MIAC to ensure that it becomes a sustainable Alternative Dispute Resolution center, which is essential to the creation of a business enabling environment that facilitates and promotes trade and attracts investment into the Maldives.
