On June 17-18, 2019, CLDP will conduct a workshop in Marrakech, Morocco on the implementation of Morocco’s new bankruptcy law, which was passed last year. Prior to the passing of the new law, bankruptcy had presented a significant legal risk for U.S. companies and investors doing business in Morocco as the prior legal framework lacked sufficient protections and predictability. The workshop will include judges, trustees, lawyers and public prosecutors from across the country who each play a vital role in the success of Morocco’s new bankruptcy procedures. CLDP has been working in Morocco for the last several years to incorporate U.S. and international best practices into the new Moroccan bankruptcy law and to train government and private sector stakeholders on the new procedures that will help protect creditor rights. Next week’s workshop faculty will include a U.S. federal bankruptcy judge from Puerto Rico and a bankruptcy partner from Mayer Brown Houston, in addition to several Moroccan experts.
