On October 15th, 2010, CLDP concluded a three-week intensive training program in Washington DC and New York City for Iraqi judges on adjudicating complex commercial cases. The goal of the program was to develop a commercial law curriculum for the Iraqi judiciary on four main topics: international sales contracts, commercial arbitration, international partnerships and financial transactions. CLDP worked with federal and state level judges, commercial law experts and practicing attorneys to present a comprehensive and practical curriculum for sitting judges in Iraq. The Iraqi delegation was tasked with reviewing this curriculum and presenting a draft to the Iraqi Chief Justice for approval and implementation at the Iraqi Judicial Development Institute where Iraqi judges from across the country will be able to benefit from the curriculum. The next phase of the program will feature the implementation of workshops based on the curriculum developed during the three week US consultations.
