CLDP held a Workshop on Regulating and Formalizing the Role of Insolvency Trustees in Morocco: Lessons from the US Trustee’s Office in Casablanca, Morocco from November 12-13, 2015. The program was led by Chief Judge Nancy V. Alquist from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of Maryland and Clarkson McDow, retired United States Trustee for Region 4. The program was attended by 30 commercial court judges  as well as accountants and private-sector representatives who serve as bankruptcy trustees in Morocco.

The training was organized in direct response to a request by the Moroccan judiciary for technical assistance related to the administration of bankruptcy cases by the United States Trustee’s Office. It provided best practices and examples for consideration as Morocco works on the reform of Book V of its Commercial Code, particularly as it relates to the role and selection of trustees. By improving bankruptcy procedures, the workshop will help facilitate local and foreign direct investment.
