Egypt Food Safety Program

From May 16th – 19th, 2022, CLDP will conduct a series of trainings for Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA).  On Monday, May 16th and 17th, CLDP will collaborate with the US Codex Office (USCO) to provide training covering an introduction to the Codex Alimentarius, the international food safety standards body, as well as emerging topics of discussion, challenges in the Egyptian context, and next steps for Egypt at Codex.  Speakers will be virtual and in-person, with USCO-facilitated Q&A sessions throughout.  On May 17th, CLDP will collaborate with USTR’s Office of Agricultural Affairs to provide training on participation at the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Committee meetings.  The training will cover familiarization and scope of the WTO SPS Agreement, functions of the SPS Committee, and emerging and relevant topics currently under discussion at the Committee.  USTR will be joining both in-person and virtually.  On May 18th-19th, CLDP will collaborate with the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at the University of Maryland (JIFSAN-UMD) to provide training on risk assessment. The training will cover an intro to risk analysis and how it fits into WTO/food law and an intro to risk analysis and its various subparts.  JIFSAN-UMD will provide training in-person and will include exercises and Q&A sessions throughout. These trainings are part of CLDP’s wider efforts to provide technical assistance to build capacity for improving Egypt’s food safety, attracting foreign investment, and facilitating increased international trade in Egypt.
