On September 23-24, CLDP held assessment meetings in Vilnius, Lithuania with counterparts from the Belarusian legal community. This included a brief workshop at the European Humanities University (EHU), a Belarusian university that has relocated to Vilnius, Lithuania due to academic freedom concerns. The workshop kicked off CLDP’s support for EHU’s participation, for the first time, in the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition. CLDP will work with Belarusian law students at EHU to prepare them to understand and successfully compete in the Vis Moot, the largest and most prestigious international commercial arbitration moot competition in the world. Participation in the competition will provide students with a unique opportunity to learn practical skills related to private commercial law, giving them a path to career opportunities often not available to Belarusian students in Lithuania. The program will also instill rule of law concepts that will be crucial to this generation of Belarusian law students if and when the environment for economic development and investment attraction in Belarus changes.
