Western Balkans - Vis Moot Written Arguments Training

-
Western Balkans Vis Moot Teams

Teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Kosovo at CLDP's Written Arguments Training held in Banja Luka, BiH from October 27-30, 2022

On October 27-30, CLDP, in collaboration with Embassy Sarajevo, University of Banja Luka, Faculty of Law, and Association ARBITRI, conducted the Vis Moot Written Arguments Training in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Five teams from BiH and one team from Kosovo participated in the interactive training that will help prepare them to compete in the 30th Willem C. Vis International Arbitration Moot taking place in Vienna in April 2023. Due to the legal culture, systems, and education, students are not generally well versed in persuasive legal writing and effective legal research. Trainers led students in several exercises and lessons designed to assist them in writing their arguments. Vis Moot prepares students for an international legal career. It is essential to upskill the students and give them the necessary tools to use in the competition and further in their professional careers. The training focused on topics such as: persuasive legal writing, review of legal questions in the Vis Moot Problem, how to structure legal arguments, and how to conduct legal research with a focus on using case law in persuasive legal writing.  The goal of this program is to strengthen international commercial arbitration in BiH and Kosovo. Education and participation in Vis Moot competition will strengthen the international commercial law framework in the region thereby fostering a sound business environment that promotes the U.S. economic interests and increases regional integration with Western markets.
