Allaa Mageid

Attorney-Advisor (International)

Allaa Mageid is an Attorney-Advisor (International) with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) Middle East North Africa (MENA) Team in the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she works to support legal and regulatory reforms that enhance trade and economic development in the region.

Prior to joining CLDP, Ms. Mageid was an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP and White & Case LLP in Washington, DC, where she advised on the formation and management of private equity investment funds, guiding clients through regulatory compliance, intellectual property consideration, governance matters, and negotiations with high profile investors and sponsors across the United States, Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Her expertise includes advising on fund structuring and compliance with both U.S. and international regulations, ensuring alignment with regional economic and regulatory environments, with a particular focus on sovereign wealth funds, development finance institutions, and major financial services providers. Ms. Mageid also has project finance, international arbitration, capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions experience.

Previously, Ms. Mageid was a 2016 Presidential Management Fellow, serving as an Environmental Health Scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Ms. Mageid holds a J.D. with the highest pro bono distinction from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where she served as an editor for the Berkeley Technology Law JournalBerkeley Journal of African American Law & Policy, and Journal of Middle Eastern & Islamic Law. founded the student group Berkeley Law Integrating Science in Society, served as a Student Legal Advisor at the United Nations Human Rights Council, and participated in the International Human Rights Law Clinic that further deepened her understanding of cross-border legal frameworks and sustainable development.  She also holds a Master of Health Science, Graduate Certificate in Risk Science and Public Policy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.  Allaa is proficient in Arabic and is admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C.
