CLDP, in cooperation with the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA), the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia “Sakpatenti”, and the High School of Justice (HSJ), held a two-day Workshop on Adjudication of Civil IP Cases and IP Training for Journalists in Batumi, Georgia for 26 judges, as well as GCA, Sakpatenti, HSJ officials. The workshop was held inan interactive training format, based on country specific case studies developed by GCA and Sakpatenti and meant to address the most pressing and relevant issues in adjudication of civil IP infringement cases in Georgia. The Georgian judges were particularly interestied in the legislation for trademark and patent registration, compensation of losses, and use of expert witnesses in IP Infringement cases.

Additionally, the goal for the IP Training for the Journalists, which was attended by 15 journalists and producers,  was to raise awareness and improve understanding of IP in the media.

This program is part of a series of judicial trainings first started in 2012 that are designed to address topics of interest and ongoing IPR enforcement challenges in Georgia. The workshop will help Georgian judges improve their ability to fairly, efficiently, and effectively adjudicate intellectual property infringement cases while also providing a forum for dialogue for the improvement of IP protection between the judiciary, Sakpatenti, and GCA.
