On April 4-7, CLDP conducted a Workshop on Trade Facilitation and Cross-Border Issues in Odessa, Ukraine for officials from Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Pakistan, and Ukraine. Advisors from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, USAID, event co-host American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, and the Moldovan and Pakistani governments emphasized inter-governmental, inter-agency, and public-private cooperation in developing and implementing policy and procedures for trade and cross-border issues. Individual country presentations on best practices provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage with colleagues from the broader region. A tour of customs operations at the Odessa Sea Port offered interactive sharing of practices as well. In line with the USG C5+1 platform with Central Asia and the New Silk Road Initiative connecting Central and South Asia, the program furthered the establishment and development of greater intra-regional trade and cooperation.
