On December 6–7, CLDP conducted a two-day conference in Kuwait City to train judges regarding their roles in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.  CLDP worked in close cooperation with the Kuwait Supreme Council of Planning and Development and the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies to organize the training workshop, and enlisted the expertise of judges and international dispute resolution experts to focus on best practices in referring and awarding alternative dispute resolution decisions.  Program experts included the Honorable Barrington D. Parker, Senior Judge at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and Judge Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar from the Saudi Arabia Center for Commercial Arbitration.  Participants in the program increased their understanding of the role of judges in alternative dispute resolution in commercial cases, and are helping to ensure greater reliability of contract compliance and enforcement for American businesses operating in Kuwait.
