Jorge Aguilar is an Attorney-Advisor (International) with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce. He manages a portfolio of reform and technical cooperation projects in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. Mr. Aguilar has experience working on different aspects of international economic law and policy, emerging market issues, regulatory regimes, and advocacy in Washington, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Prior to joining CLDP, Mr. Aguilar worked as a Legal Advisor for Trade at the Center for International Private Enterprise in Washington, D.C., where he was assigned to the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF). Mr. Aguilar advised GATF projects on different aspects of international trade law, regulation, and policy, with a focus on customs reform, modernization, and general trade facilitation. He participated in a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from risk management reforms to the implementation of complex border processing systems.

Mr. Aguilar received his J.D. and an MA degree in International Affairs/International Development from American University. He also holds a B.A. in International Relations, with a Minor in Latin American and Caribbean Affairs from Rollins College. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland and is a member of the bar of the U.S. Court of International Trade. Mr. Aguilar is fluent in Spanish.
