On September 23, 2021, CLDP supported the International Trade Administration in hosting government officials from Brazil in a virtual privacy roundtable by managing the Zoom platform, tracking participants, and providing simultaneous interpretation between English and Portuguese. The participants discussed best practices in data protection and mechanisms for interoperability between Brazilian and U.S. laws to enable international data transfers. The roundtable included presentations from U.S. and Brazilian government and industry participants, including the directors of Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). This roundtable built on CLDP and ITA’s previous engagement with the ANPD in April 2021, allowing participants to share deeper information regarding their cross-border data processing and transfer needs, the ANPD’s experience with the certification process, and with ensuring compliance with data privacy requirements across jurisdictions. CLDP supported this roundtable under the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership, a global initiative to advance connectivity and digital trade, improve policy and regulatory environments for ICT sector growth, and enhance cyber security.
