CLDP, in conjunction with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), continued its work with Georgia's National Intellectual Property Center (Sakpatenti) to provide assistance in the development of an electronic filing system for patents and trademarks. CLDP sponsored a six-person team from USPTO to travel to Tbilisi to conduct on-site consultations with Sakpatenti on the establishment of their pilot e-filing program. This database will help ensure that intellectual property within Georgia receives adequate legal protection. USPTO officials also conducted patent and trademark examination trainings and discussed other areas of interest to Sakpatenti related to the administration of an intellectual property office, such as teleworking, worksharing and patent rights assignment. Most notably, USPTO and Sakpatenti held discussions on the text of an MOU the two agencies will sign to establish a bilateral relationship of cooperation and assistance.
