General Counsel Cameron Kerry traveled with CLDP to the Arabian Peninsula the week of May 9, 2011 to participate in the CLDP-organized conference in Doha, Qatar: “Private Sector Integrity and Economic Development in Gulf Countries.”  GC Kerry provided opening remarks and participated in a panel at the conference, which is a collaboration between CLDP, the Qatari Office of Public Prosecution, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

While in Doha, GC Kerry, along with CLDP Attorney James Filpi and International Program Specialist Sana Akili, also participated in the Executive Committee Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities, and held numerous meetings, including with the Qatari Attorney General, the Qatari Ministry of Justice, the Dean of Qatar University College of Law, and the Chairman of the Qatar Science & Technology Park.  Prior to arriving in Doha, Filpi and GC Kerry will stop in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to hold meetings with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat, the Saudi Ministry of Justice, and the Governor of the Saudi General Investment Authority, among others. 

The General Counsel’s activities in the region received coverage in several regional media outlets.  GC Kerry’s comments at the Executive Committee Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities were quoted by the Qatar News Agency, the Gulf Times, and the Qatar Tribune, while his involvement in CLDP’s Private Sector Integrity Conference received advance coverage in Asharq Alawsat, Al Arab, and Al Raya.  GC Kerry also gave interviews on Thursday, May 12 to the Al Jazeera English business program, “Counting the Cost,” as well as an interview   Kerry is in the region to attend the events mentioned above, as well as hold a number of bilateral meetings along with CLDP Attorney James Filpi and Program Specialist Sana Akili.
