CLDP sponsored 20 students from Kabul University Law School, Kardan University Law School, and the American University of Afghanistan to participate in the 12th Annual Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) in Hong Kong on March 15-22, 2015. This is the second year CLDP has sponsored Afghan students to compete in the Vis East Moot and 3 of the Afghan students that competed last year in the Vis returned to Hong Kong as coaches. The Vis East Moot, held annually in Hong Kong, is one of the most prestigious international law moot court competitions. The goal of the Vis Moot is to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration for the resolution of international business disputes. The competition was preceded by eight months of extensive training, including in-person training sessions, Skype sessions with U.S. coaches, and a Pre-Moot in Amman, Jordan. CLDP also held a two-day training for the teams in Hong Kong prior to the competition. The Vis Moot experience helps equip the Afghan participants with the skills necessary to handle commercial business disputes and bolsters the rule of law in Afghanistan.
