The First Annual Willem C. Vis Middle East International Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot took place April 12-13, 2011 in Vienna, Austria. The Vis Middle East Pre-Moot was organized by CLDP, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law’s Center for International Legal Education (CILE), and the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution (BCDR-AAA). Participating teams comprised of law school students from Sultan Qaboos University College of Law in Oman, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Egypt, and the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences of Tunis took part in trainings and six rounds of arbitrations in Vienna. The Dean of the University of Baghdad School of Law attended the Pre-Moot in the hope of establishing a Vis Team from Iraq to take part in the Pre-Moot in 2012. Qatar University and UAE University College of Law competed in the written memoranda portion of the Pre-Moot. Since 2006, CLDP and CILE have introduced the Vis Moot in Bahrain, Oman, UAE and Qatar. The 2nd Annual Vis Middle East Commercial Arbitration Pre-Moot, sponsored by BCDR-AAA, will be held in Manama, Bahrain in February 2012.
