Bahrain – CLDP and USPTO Host IP and Patent Webinar Series

CLDP, in close cooperation with USPTO, hosted a series of four train-the-trainer webinars for the leadership of the Bahrain Innovation and Technology Center (BITC). Participants included government and university stakeholders from the Bahrain Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism and universities based in Bahrain. This training focused on how to train faculty, students, and entrepreneurs in an effort to support the commercialization of academic-led IP in Bahrain. This training, along with consultations with experienced academically based innovation centers in the U.S., aimed to increase Bahrain’s ability to identify, protect, and commercialize innovation through its universities. These webinars included: 

  1. April 30, 2020, Intellectual property (IP) for startups and entrepreneurs: This program explained why it is good policy to support IP, taught IP to startups and entrepreneurs, created systems to support the IP needs of startups and entrepreneurs, and explained the roles and responsibilities of startups and entrepreneurs. 

  1. May 7, 2020, Patent policy and strategy: This program focused on patent policy and strategy, including essential policy decisions related to filing and protecting patents and include discussions on patent policy, patent requirements, and patent acquisition. 

  1. May 14, 2020, Patent applications: This program included an interactive discussion of patent drafting, claim interpretation, and patent examination. 

  1. May 21, 2020, Identify, prioritize, and protect IP: This program focused on how to identify intellectual property for startups, small enterprises, and professor publications; prioritize intellectual property based on cost and value; and protect intellectual property locally and internationally.
