On January 9-10, 2014, CLDP conducted a financial modeling workshop for Burma’s Ministry of Energy (MOE) and national oil company, Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) in Naypyitaw. CLDP, with expert-advisor Donald Bellman from the University of Texas, presented a Burmese-specific financial model that MOE and MOGE may use to forecast potential revenues in order to evaluate bid tenders for offshore energy development in Burma. This financial modeling workshop presents a new tool to the ministries, which will help level the playing field and place MOE and MOGE in better positions to negotiate and manage transparent and sustainable oil and gas contracts that benefit all stakeholders.

This program was conducted with the cooperation of US Embassy Rangoon under the aegis of the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources, with which CLDP has been providing oil and gas technical assistance to Burma since March 2012. It was a follow-up to CLDP’s workshop on durable oil and gas contracts held for MOE and MOGE in August 2013 and all stakeholders agreed that CLDP should conducted another Workshop to help MOE and MOGE complete the model in May 2014.
