Capacity Building in Technology Transfer and Technology Licensing in Georgia

-
Advisor Michael Davitz answers questions about case studies with participants.

CLDP, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, the Georgian Research and Development Foundation and the Technical University of Georgia, held a follow up technology transfer and technology licensing workshop. The goal of the program was to facilitate an advanced understanding of techniques and substantive issues associated with technology transfer and technology licensing and enable the participants to design IP protection strategies for Georgian research laboratories and advanced technology firms interested in licensing out technology. The workshop focused on starting and structuring a university technology transfer office, key IP concepts related to technology transfer and technology licensing, and structuring a licensing agreement. Participants included IP lawyers, representatives from Georgia’s National Intellectual Property Centre (Sakpatenti) and representatives from Georgian research laboratories and institutions. The Civilian Research and Development Foundation supported the participation of three Armenian scientists and researchers, thereby making this an opportunity for colleagues to network and exchange ideas. The program was led by Dr. Michael Davitz who is currently a partner at Axinn, Veltrop, Harkrider LLP, in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Biomedical Practice Groups.
