CLDP Organizes 2 MENA Workshops on International Arbitration

-

CLDP hosted two programs on international arbitration in Tunis, Tunisia and Casablanca, Morocco from December 7-13, 2017.

On December 7 and 8 in Tunis, CLDP hosted a Judicial Workshop on the Role of Courts in Enforcing Arbitral Awards and Agreements, in coordination with the Tunisian Court of Cassation. The workshop gathered 30 judges, lawyers, and legal scholars from across Tunisia as a training on recent cases and detailed technical aspects of arbitration in Tunisia.  A legal officer from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) joined a Tunisian judge and lawyer as expert-advisors.

From December 11-13 in Casablanca, CLDP hosted a Regional Workshop on International Arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa. Judges, attorneys, and ministry officials from Bahrain, Kuwait, Morocco, Saudia Arabia, and Tunisia attended for training, case studies, and the sharing of best practices in international arbitration. Two U.S. judges, an UNCITRAL official, and judges and attorneys from the region served as expert-advisors.

Both programs are part of CLDP's technical assistance to MENA countries to encourage arbitration as an efficient method of settling commercial disputes. This project is funded by the U.S. State Department's Middle East Partnership Initiative.
