CLDP in cooperation with the Iraq National Investment Commission (NIC) held the third phase of the capacity building program aimed at improving the legal drafting acumen, negotiation skills, and finance knowledge of Iraqi Provincial Investment Commissions (PICs). The four-day workshop was held in Istanbul, Turkey and attended by approximately 20 lawyers representing the legal departments of Iraqi PICs, representatives of the legal directorates from the NIC, Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Council of Ministers Secretariat (COMSEC). 

The workshop included presentations on material terms in project finance contracts, negotiation exercises, contract-drafting discussions, and case studies on the legal aspects of financing and arbitration. The workshop also featured presentations by the IFC, bankers, investors, and developers based in Istanbul and doing business in Iraq in order to provide more ‘real-world’ investment and legal financing perspectives to the Iraqi participants.
