In support of the CLDP judicial reform program, which aims to increase the judiciary's knowledge of commercial law, the goal of the curriculum development program is to strengthen legal education in the Middle East by designing a commercial law curriculum for universities in the region. By incorporating this curriculum into the universities, CLDP will increase the capability and quality of future policymakers and judges in commercial law, leading to better drafting and implementation of laws and regulations in this region. CLDP brought professors from partner institutions in Oman to the U.S. to participate in a consultative tour of American law schools on February 20 - March 4, 2005. During the visit, the participants were able to experience firsthand the teaching methods that are being used at prominent U.S. law schools. They met with law professors to discuss the development of curricula and observed classes on commercial law. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to establish valuable relationships with other academic and legal professionals. Following the consultative tour, CLDP will send an advisor to work with each participating university to develop two courses on commercial law to incorporate into the school's curriculum for the Fall 2005 semester.
