Following the three workshops on US Import Standards and GSP in Georgia in July, CLDP, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy and its Georgian interlocutors, hosted a 14-person Georgian delegation comprised of key government officials, trade association representatives, and private sector agricultural producers in Washington, DC. These consultations further informed the delegates on how to import GSP-eligible agricultural products into the U.S. through visits to relevant government agencies, such as USTR, USDA, FDA, TTB, CBP and ITA, and meetings with U.S. importers, distributors, and trade associations. The workshops and consultations CLDP implemented were able to provide practical assistance to Georgian agribusinesses and the Government of Georgia (GoG) on how to recognize and take advantage of market opportunities in order to increase exports to the United States, to improve the skill and knowledge level of the GoG and the private sector to recognize and follow U.S. government requirements for importation, especially for agricultural products, and to improve the ability of the GoG and private sector exporters to take advantage of the GSP program.
