Honduras: CLDP Implements Second Workshop on Microgrid Policy and Regulation

-

On September 10-11, CLDP implemented its second workshop on microgrid policy and regulation in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Participants included more than 30 officials from the Honduran Ministry of Energy, the national energy regulatory commission, and the government owned and operated electrical power company, among others. CLDP experts guided discussions and offered best practices on key topics for the Honduran government to consider as it contemplates microgrid policy and regulation such as financing, land use and rights of way, and the role of municipalities. Following the workshop, government regulators stated their intention to revise portions of existing regulation concerning grid interconnection. They also plan to create a model contract to be used for future microgrid projects, which will be the topic of CLDP’s next engagement for this project. This workshop represents the continuation of CLDP’s two-year project aimed at developing the legal and regulatory frameworks for microgrids to flourish in Honduras and Guatemala. Increased electrification resulting from expanded use of microgrids will spur economic development and ultimately address some of the factors that drive insecurity and migration in the region.
