On February 21-22, CLDP implemented its third workshop on microgrid policy and regulation in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Participants included more than 30 officials from the Honduran Ministry of Energy, the national energy regulatory commission, and the government owned and operated electrical power company, among others. CLDP experts guided discussions and offered best practices on key topics for the Honduran government to consider as it contemplates microgrid policy and regulation such as microgrid structures, licensing, interconnection, and the role of municipalities. This workshop represents the continuation of CLDP’s two-year project aimed at developing the legal and regulatory frameworks for microgrids to flourish in Honduras and Guatemala. Increased electrification resulting from expanded use of microgrids will spur economic development and ultimately address some of the factors that drive insecurity and migration in the region.
