With the expansion of the Jordanian economy, judges are facing increasingly more complex cases having to do with small and medium sized enterprises. Jordan is working to reform some of the commercial law to reflect the new business environment, and CLDP is helping to prepare judges in their new roles. The three-day workshop organized by CLDP focused on bankruptcy, the role of mediation, and the process of reorganizing businesses. The group of 13 Jordanian judges participated in discussions of how to apply current Jordanian bankruptcy law and how planned reforms could change the law. The workshop included a comparative study of bankruptcy law around the world, and the judges worked on case studies that illustrated the major issues important to companies experiencing temporary difficulties.
