OnDecember 3-4, CLDP conducted a training on FIDIC (the International Federation of Consulting Engineers) contracts for an audience comprised of representatives from the Ministries of Finance, National Planning and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Environment and the Attorney General’s Office. FIDIC contracts are internationally recognized standardized contracts for construction projects. They provide a baseline of best practices for risk allocation, dispute resolution and other pertinent contract clauses. The Maldivian government is striving to implement more balanced contracts for its robust infrastructure strategic plan and this training provided the contract managers insight into how to better negotiate and manage contracts with international companies to ensure infrastructure projects are built both physically and financially sustainably.
