On January 22-30, CLDP, in collaboration with the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), hosted a seven-day in-depth mediation and mediation trainer training for a delegation of Pakistanis led by the Institute of Business Administration’s Dispute Resolution Forum (IBA DRF), including dispute resolution professionals, academics, High Court judges from Lahore and Islamabad, the head of Pakistan’s securities regulation body, and the head of legal affairs for Pakistan’s primary stock exchange.  Participants completed the requisite training to earn accreditation as International Mediation Institute (IMI) Certified Mediators and Mediation Trainers.  Following this engagement, delegates from SIMC will accompany participants from IBA DRF to Pakistan to conduct local mediation trainings and launch a local joint IBA DRF-SIMC certification program for Pakistani mediators.  Implementing this project will support a self-sustaining mediation program in the country with a key private institution partner in Pakistan.  This program will be key to achieving the U.S. interest in expanding access to justice in Pakistan, fostering a culture of ADR, and strengthening ties between the two nations.
