In addition to CLDP’s global legal assistance, our Energy & Minerals team works with Tribal Nations across the U.S. at the direction of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy (IE). This partnership began in 2025, and since then, we have been able to leverage our ever-growing network of global power sector experts to provide tailored legal technical assistance to federally recognized Indian Tribes, including Alaska Native Regional Corporations. 

Our Tribal government counterparts face challenges and opportunities similar to those of our international government counterparts. Many seek to attract energy and economic infrastructure projects that will benefit their communities, while also building Tribal “in-house” capacity to independently develop bankable project structures that ultimately support energy sovereignty. 

In our first year, we worked with several Tribes on energy generation and procurement, as well as data center development, alongside our colleagues at IE. We are excited to continue this work to further strengthen Tribal expertise in energy and economic development.
