From February 14-18, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), in coordination with Arbitration Initiative Georgia, led three programs to prepare law students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Germany to compete in the annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) Competition. On February 14-15, CLDP held a training on the fundamentals of international arbitration and oral advocacy. Following the training on February 16, CLDP hosted a one-day conference on current issues in commercial arbitration. On February 17-18, CLDP conducted a pre-moot competition with teams of law students and coaches from 10 universities across the South Caucasus and Europe. After an exciting week of programming the closing ceremony highlighted standout team performances by Yerevan State University (First Place), Tbilisi State University (Second Place), and Free University of Tbilisi (Third Place). Individual top performances were recognized with trophies and several students were awarded internships by sponsoring law firms based on stellar performances during the competition.
