Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

CLDP, in cooperation with the Department of Commerce Research Library, organized the second annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. Over 20 children attended the event, which took place on Thursday, April 28, 2016.  The young and enthusiastic “employees” started their day with a welcome and swearing-in ceremony led by OGC General Counsel Kelly Welsh. They were also fortunate to meet DOC Secretary Penny Pritzker, who had arrived from a trip to Germany just a few hours prior, but was happy to pose for a group photo with the children.

The children had a busy day interviewing their parents and their parents’ colleagues and learning about the Department of Commerce. They showed off their knowledge and skills playing “Rule of Law” Jeopardy, led by CLDP Chief Counsel Steve Gardner. They learned about writing resumes under the guidance of  the Library Director Karen Krugman. They also demonstrated their artistic and team-work skills playing Pictionary under the supervision of CLDP Senior Counsel Nnamdi Ezera and NTIA Senior Attorney-Advisor Stacy Cheney. The honorary “employees” also had a chance to visit the White House Visitor’s Center and participate in the Center’s fun activities.

According to the feedback session at the end of the day, the children had fun and learned some interesting facts about the Department of Commerce, OGC, and CLDP. Some reported that they were surprised by how much work their parents do, others were impressed by the cafeteria food, but all agreed it was a great day.

At the end of the day, the children received certificates of completion from OGC Deputy General Counsel Josh Berman.

CLDP and the DOC Research Library thank all the parents who volunteered to help with the event and hope to have more events involving the OGC kids in the future.
