In October 2007 a Merchandise Trade Reconciliation Study was initiated to determine why there were significant differences between Moroccan export and U.S. import trade figures. The data from 2006 was reviewed since that was the first year of trade covered under the U.S. - Morocco Free Trade Agreement (USMFTA). This preliminary report summarized U.S. findings from an initial comparison of U.S. import and Moroccan export trade statistics for the years 2005 through 2007 to answer questions regarding accounting differences and work toward accurate data reporting. CLDP organized these consultations between Moroccan Officials from Office des Changes and experts from the US Census Bureau to discuss the progress of the US-Morocco trade statistics reconciliation.
