From September 27-29, CLDP hosted a Workshop on Anti-Corruption: Government Ethics, Transparency, and Corporate Compliance in Kiev, Ukraine for 70 Ukrainian business leaders and government officials. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, General Counsel Kelly Welsh, Deputy General Counsel Josh Berman, and U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch all spoke during the workshop. In her remarks, Secretary Pritzker highlighted the U.S. government’s commitment to reinforcing government ethics and transparency reforms while combating corruption in Ukraine.

The workshop is part of a CLDP-led initiative in Ukraine that focuses on public procurement and customs reform relating to trade facilitation, judicial capacity building, and corporate compliance. It was held in cooperation with the Ukraine Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Ukraine State Fiscal Service, High Council of Justice, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, European Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The program focused on anti-corruption reform in public procurement, customs, and the judicial system. It offered public-procurement process improvement and capacity-building recommendations to address identified deficiencies and encourage e-procurement solutions. The workshop also focused on capacity-building for Ukrainian customs in implementing the relevant laws and regulations efficiently and consistently, thereby contributing to an improved trade and investment climate in Ukraine. Furthermore, in anticipation of new legislation to reform Ukraine’s judicial legal system, workshop recommendations will provide international best practices on implementing judicial and prosecutorial code of conduct.
