In April 2008, a new law was passed in Egypt establishing specialized economic courts at the circuit of jurisdiction of each court of appeal. At the request of the National Center for Judicial Studies, CLDP designed a 10-day U.S. Consultation Tour for a group of 10 Egyptian judges from Egypt’s Economic Courts, with a focus on bankruptcy law and case management, and mediation.
Meeting with US Courts at the Federal, State and International levels, experts concentrated on the capacity of Egyptian judges in the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency law. The Egyptian judges thought the most meaningful discussions surrounded mediation, bankruptcy arbitration, restructuring and arbitration agreements. They also stated that the exchange of ideas and experiences will allow them to pass on the knowledge in how they train their judges and improve the judicial system in Egypt.
