CLDP hosted seven members of the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality to travel to Washington, D.C. for consultations from July 11-17, 2010. CLDP worked with partner organizations to present an overview of the U.S. Standards setting system, TBT Enquiry point and notification review through the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the function of the American National Standards Institute, as well as the operation and purpose of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Energy, and the American Society for Quality in setting and maintaining quality and consistent standards. To assist in specific product standards questions important to Egypt, the delegates also met with several product associations including the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, the Society of Automobile Engineers, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association,and the Consumer Electronics Association. Delegates left with a thorough knowledge of both U.S. Government and private organizations involved in the standards process and how these processes can enhance or build upon quality standards in Egypt.
