As part of an ongoing program of judicial capacity building and IP enforcement for Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), CLDP held a workshop on the Development of a Judicial IP Benchbook in Sarajevo in September 2011. The benchbook will provide valuable guidance to judges and prosecutors dealing with intellectual property infringement cases and can be used for training purposes by the Judicial and Prosecutorial Training Centers in FBiH, Republika Srpska and Brčko District. The authors of the IP benchbook are the 8 BiH judges that took part in the May 2011 IP Consultations in Memphis. These 8 judges, both civil and criminal and representative of BiH’s entities, spent the 3-day program working closely with Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Bernice Donald and Federal Judicial Center Director of Communications Policy & Design Attorney Syl Sobel. The judges completed the preface and an 8 page comprehensive outline for the benchbook during the program and decided on drafting assignments and a timeline for completion of the manual. The US Embassy and High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council representatives who attended the program noted the value of the benchbook not just for its IP subject matter but as a methodology on which to base future judicial publications.
