As an immediate result of the workshop, the eight universities have formed a network of Egyptian Universities that want to use the fruit of their research and development, as embodied in their patent portfolios, as a lever for economic development. In order to help them do so, CLDP, with assistance from NIST, will conduct a series of activities for the University network in the coming year.

At the first meeting of the Egyptian Network for Innovative Technology (ENIT), the Network approved the action plan submitted by the Commercial Law Development (CLDP) program for a comprehensive technical assistance program in technology transfer to extend over two years. The Network welcomed the addition of representatives from the Egyptian Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF), and discussed the importance of including policy stakeholders in the CLDP program, to inform Egyptian policymakers of the incentive-based structures for University-led development unique to the United States. ENIT also adopted a timeframe for a project done in parallel with CLDP to push 8 technologies for potential licensing opportunities in the United States and celebrated the benefits of experience they will gain through efforts to commercialize their current technology. Finally, they were joined by Technology Transfer and Licensing expert Ann Roberson by DVC, and discussed plans for a workshop in late January that will involve interactive exercises designed to better prepare them for licensing negotiations.
