CLDP sponsored a delegation of 3 representatives from the Georgian National Investment Agency to attend the International Franchise Expo (IFE) in New York, NY from June 20-22, 2013. IFE is the largest such event in the country, with more than 400 franchises represented, providing a forum for a uniquely comprehensive learning experience about franchising with an exceptional gathering of experts. Information on the expo can be found at http://www.ifeinfo.com/.  The delegation also held side meetings with 20 US companies to discuss expansion into the Georgian market.  GNIA representatives had the opportunity to present Georgia at a glance and the benefits of doing business in Georgia, as well as establish contacts with a US franchiser with current plans to expand into Georgia.
 
The visit represents a new CLDP initiative which will continue in 2014.   This programming will aim to provide an introduction to franchising as well as an opportunity to identify key legal, regulatory, and business challenges in Georgia in order to bolster an environment supportive to franchising.  CLDP’s franchising capacity building program for Georgia will aim to promote job creation, spur economic growth, improve human capital – including women-owned businesses – and increase FDI.
