As part of CLDP’s continuous capacity building program on Commercial Diplomacy and World Trade for Georgia, the second of several WTO capacity building workshops washeld in Tbilisi, Georgia December 16-19, 2013 in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development (MOESD).

The program, which was initiated in 2012, focuses on offering comprehensive and in depth training to key MOESD and other Government of Georgia officials on WTO trade remedies, WTO dispute resolution, and negotiating free trade agreements. Participants received training on dispute settlement mechanisms, the rules of interpretation, the panel process and the appellate review process and took part in simulation exercises to apply the principles. Leading the workshop was a prominent international legal advisor, specializing in international trade law and WTO-related topics.

This workshop, to be followed by additional programs in 2014, aimed to enhance the capacity of Georgian Government officials to effectively take part in international trade negotiations and improve their ability to foster and promote Georgia’s trade and investments interests.
