CLDP, in coordination with the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine and private industry conducted a two-day workshop on the identification and interdiction of infringing products. The workshop targeted over 25 State Fiscal Service officials of Ukraine. Private industry participants were also present and included representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine and the European Business Association. The program aimed to expand the protection of intellectual property (IP) rights in Ukraine by improving the communication channel between the private industry and the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, identifying institutional and legislative impediments to efficient IPR enforcement, outlining steps to remove the impediments, and increasing capacity of the State Fiscal Service officials of Ukraine on the methods and techniques of identification of counterfeit and pirated products. The industry representatives shared effective methods of identifying authentic versus counterfeit and pirated goods and provided interactive case studies that addressed technical, institutional and legislative obstacles to effective IP protection in Ukraine. The participants discussed and agreed upon a set of recommendations to help formulate universal approaches and procedures to be applied by the Ukrainian authorities in handling of counterfeit products.
