In April 2009, a delegation from the Ukrainian State Department of Intellectual Property successfully concluded its consultation program in Washington, DC. The meetings focused on two aspects of IP protection. The first was the development of regulations and procedures of a new quasi-judicial authority to enforce intellectual property rights based upon the model of the U.S. International Trade Commission. The second was to assist the development of a Ukrainian IP standard curriculum for training students, lawyers and government officials. In showing the policy, structure and procedures of the U.S. International Trade Commission in regard to intellectual property enforcement, CLDP provided the officials of the State Department of Intellectual Property of Ukraine the tools to develop regulations and procedures for a new quasi-judicial authority with the power to effectively protect intellectual property rights of imported products. In addition, by developing the standard curriculum for IPR courses in Ukraine, CLDP helped Ukraine significantly improve the professional level of its lawyers, judges and government officials involved in the various aspects of application of the intellectual property law.
