CLDP organized a three week capacity building program for Iraqi officials from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and managers of ten Iraqi state owned enterprises on how to develop strategic partnerships with foreign firms. The program included workshops on a variety of topics including the role of intellectual property, technology transfer, dispute resolution and international development organizations in developing the partnership. During first week of the DC-based program, CLDP led interactive case studies on business alliance contract negotiations, selecting strategic partners, measuring profitability and project finance. The program also included a negotiation exercise where the Iraqi participants engaged in a simulated negotiation directly with senior international lawyers. CLDP also worked the US Chamber of Commerce to host a business forum where the Iraqi state owned companies and ministry officials discussed potential business alliances with US companies interested in entering the Iraqi market.
