Adjudication of Cybercrime Cases Workshop for Georgian Judges

-

CLDP, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of the Resident Legal Advisor at the U.S. Embassy Georgia (RLA) and the High School of Justice of Georgia (HSJ), held a two-day Workshop on Adjudication of Cybercrime Cases in Batumi, Georgia for approximately 25 judges as well as HSJ officials and representatives from the Georgian Copyright Association (GCA) and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia "Sakpatenti". The two-day training focused on presentations and country specific case studies developed to address the most pressing and relevant issues in adjudication of cybercrime cases in Georgia. Providing US expertise and examples from US case law was Judge R. Allan Edgar from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and a representative from the U.S. Department of Justice Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS). The two US advisors also lead a two-day training for prosecutors on prosecution of cybercrime cases in Tbilisi, Georgia, organized by the Office of the RLA.

This program is part of a series of trainings first started in 2012 that are designed to address topics of interest and ongoing IPR enforcement challenges in Georgia. The workshop helped Georgian judges improve their ability to fairly, efficiently, and effectively adjudicate cybercrime cases.
